POSITION: Deputy Prosecuting Attorney
GRADE: 14 FLSA Exempt Position
STARTING BI-WEEKLY SALARY RANGE: $2,708-$3,250

JOB DUTIES: Under the direction of the City Attorney, the Deputy Prosecuting Attorney is responsible for a high volume magistrate court docket. To include prosecuting criminal misdemeanors and traffic infractions, preparing for and attending arraignments, pretrial conferences, pretrial hearings, court trials, jury trials, sentencing hearings and contested probation violation hearings.
The Deputy Prosecuting Attorney will be required to learn and use a case management software system to update files as cases progress from arraignment through resolution. Other duties will include research and writing memoranda and briefs on various criminal case related issues. Responding to motions to suppress, preparing for trial, and addressing evidentiary issues. Researches and drafts training materials for law enforcement and general employees.
This position may on a less frequent basis assist the City Attorney in a variety of legal matters such as attending Council/Commission meetings; legal research, counseling the police department and preparing legal documents.QUALIFICATIONS: A Juris Doctorate degree; licensed with the Idaho State Bar and a minimum of one year of courtroom experience in either a criminal or civil context. Applicants should possess a work history which demonstrates strong organizational skills; an above average ability to prepare excellent written and oral communications; and the characteristics of initiative, and confidentiality. The ability to use good time management skills; strong interpersonal skills; speak effectively in public; exhibit proficiency in legal research and writing; interpret various statutes and code sections; understand relevant case law; display an attitude of cooperation and work harmoniously with all levels of City employees, the general public and other organizations. Final applicants must be able to successfully pass a City of Twin Falls polygraph examination and a background investigation which includes reference checks, driving record check, education verification and criminal history checks.
