Corporate Risk

Corporate Risk helps all Wells Fargo businesses identify and manage risk. The team focuses on several key risk areas, including credit, operational, market, strategic, and compliance risk. Corporate Risk strives to ensure that all Wells Fargo corporate functions and lines of business (LOBs) soundly manage risk, comply with applicable laws and regulations, and offer products and services that meet the needs of our customers. The group provides leadership, enhances communications, assists with problem identification and solutions, and shares best practices. In addition, Corporate Risk provides an enterprise-wide view of risk, assists management and our Board of Directors in identifying and monitoring risks that may affect multiple lines of business, and takes appropriate action when business activities exceed the risk tolerance of the company.

Wells Fargo Compliance

Wells Fargo Compliance is the company s compliance second line of defense function, providing company-wide leadership, standards, support, and independent oversight to ensure that all business groups abide by applicable laws, rules, regulations and regulatory guidance (regulatory requirements), meet compliance responsibilities, and manage compliance Finances. Wells Fargo Compliance credibly challenges management decisions, business processes and activities, and evaluates and assesses adherence to applicable regulatory requirements. It provides appropriate analysis, reporting, and escalation to senior management and the Board of Directors, sets minimum standards for the company, and gives advice, guidance, and supports compliance Finance management activities across the enterprise.

Enterprise Functions Compliance is responsible for overseeing compliance risk management across corporate staff functions, including Enterprise Risk. In addition, the group oversees regulatory requirements aligned to other Risk functions as well as a number of regulations and compliance programs that cross multiple lines of business.

The Role

The Enterprise Risk Compliance Manager will oversee compliance risk management activities across Corporate Risk, the Legal Department and Wells Fargo Audit Services. This leader will oversee compliance program execution in operational functions, management of regulatory changes and oversight of regulatory requirements managed by other Risk functions, and enterprise compliance policy implementation and oversight for assigned topics. This role will work across the enterprise, requiring relationships with various key stakeholders including Legal, Risk and Compliance partners and business leaders, driving consistent processes for end-to-end assessment and management of specific regulatory compliance risks across the enterprise and enabling Wells Fargo to demonstrate compliance with applicable laws, rules, and regulations.

Responsibilities

The Enterprise Risk Compliance Manager strives to foster an environment that ensures strong communication and cooperation among the three lines of defense and sustains a strong risk culture that identifies and provides oversight and escalation of existing and emerging compliance risk exposures across business groups, legal entities, geographies, and jurisdictions.

The Enterprise Risk Compliance Manager is accountable for:

  • Developing and managing business routines to ensure effective stakeholder engagement in solutions to drive consistent and effective execution of compliance program requirements.
  • Defining and implementing compliance program expectations around the development of enterprise-level policies, procedures, training, metrics and process maps for specific regulatory requirements.
  • Developing and overseeing implementation of enterprise compliance policies for specific regulatory risks, including managing enterprise governance requirements to monitor adherence to compliance policies.
  • Developing and implementing compliance training and supporting business groups in documenting process maps to ensure appropriate business understanding of regulatory risks and related control requirements, including self-assurance activities required to monitor ongoing control performance.
  • Developing and implementing enterprise metrics and key performance indicators to monitor program and/or policy execution and key risk indicators for regulatory compliance risks to enable effective oversight over regulatory compliance risks.
  • Overseeing risk analysis and reporting to evaluate group performance and inform program enhancement opportunities.
  • Providing credible challenge of Corporate Risk, Legal and WFAS self-assessments, including RCSA, and reviewing and approving risk assessments for applicable compliance risks in business process mapping, third party service provider engagements and project risk assessments.
  • Developing and producing reporting to inform senior management and the board of directors, including an annual compliance plan and periodic state of compliance reporting.
  • Overseeing compliance issue management, including enforcement actions, to ensure effective root cause analysis, development and timely implementation of effective corrective actions, sustained risk mitigation, and escalation of any gaps or delays as needed.
  • Overseeing compliance training requirements, and developing compliance training for the board of directors as needed.
  • Implementing regulatory change management processes across the enterprise functions for all regulations and across the enterprise for applicable regulations, ensuring timely identification and assessment of regulatory developments and the implementation of appropriate change management activities across impacted lines of business.
  • Managing the administration of assigned regulatory sources in the relevant system of record (CRAS+, SHRP), ensuring consistent approaches and data quality for the documentation of regulatory sources, risk ratings and applicability to Wells Fargo s activities.
  • Managing relationships with primary supervisory regulators and coordinating regulatory examinations.
  • Ensuring effective identification and assessment of compliance risks in partnership with other enterprise risk managers for credit, market, capital, liquidity, model, interest rate and operational risks.

Location: Charlotte, NC preferred; other major WF locations may be considered.



Required Qualifications

  • 10+ years of experience in compliance, operational risk management (includes audit, legal, credit risk, market risk, or the management of a process or business with accountability for compliance or operational risk), or a combination of both; or 10+ years of IT systems security, business process management or financial services industry experience, of which 6+ years must include direct experience in compliance, operational risk management, or a combination of both
  • 7+ years of management experience

  • Self-motivated and able to adapt to dynamic work environment with multiple priorities and strict timelines
  • Proven ability to develop and articulate sound proposals to key stakeholders, including ability to influence and drive timely decision making
  • Proven ability to cultivate relationships and collaborate with multiple stakeholders, including business leaders, legal, audit and multiple US and non-US regulators
  • Ability to translate ambiguous ideas/issues into well-defined plans/solutions
  • Ability to anticipate and ask the right questions to assess all facets of an effort
  • Strong analytical and problem solving skills
  • Experience driving large-scale organizational change
  • Effective communicator and relationship manager, able to ask well-crafted questions and present ideas in a clear and compelling manner, good listener who engenders creative thinking and teamwork
  • Experience managing risk disciplines beyond compliance risk, including financial and operational risks
  • Experience implementing conflicts of interest compliance programs and knowledge of regulations related to conflicts of interest, including requirements related to selling products across certain LOBs
  • Advanced Degree preferred (Masters, MBA, or JD)
