Thermo Fisher has an exciting opportunity for a Litigation Paralegal to contribute to this Mission from its Carlsbad, CA (San Diego area) location. This position reports to the IP Litigation Lead Counsel and will support intellectual property and complex commercial litigation in various forums (including U.S. and foreign courts, arbitrations, and administrative agencies), with an emphasis on U.S. patent infringement litigation. This position is part of a small, collaborative team supporting IP and commercial litigation within Thermo Fisher Scientific across all our businesses. Success in this role will come not only from exceptional paralegal skills but also excellent judgment, attitude and communication ability.

Key Responsibilities

  • Support litigation and other adversarial disputes in close partnership with outside counsel, in-house attorneys and internal legal and business teams.
  • Manage and/or support litigation processes (e.g., litigation holds; document collection, indexing and production; custodian and witness interviews; service of documents; routine filings; patent family searches; obtaining file histories; etc.)
  • Coordinate, manage, and track litigation calendar and litigation-related files and records.
  • Coordinate and schedule litigation meetings and tasks.
  • Tracks compliance with court deadlines and internal litigation policies and procedures.
  • Filing/e-filing documents in federal and state courts and service of documents.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree (preferably in Business Administration or a similar or related discipline), or the equivalent knowledge and experience.
  • Minimum of 3-4 years of complex commercial litigation experience including at least 2 years of patent litigation at a major law firm and/or in-house legal department.
  • eDiscovery experience.
  • Working knowledge of federal, state, and local rules of procedure.
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively support outside and in-house litigation teams and external litigation support teams.
  • Exceptional interpersonal and communication (written and verbal) skills, strong initiative, collaborative/team instinct, and can-do attitude.
