Senior Legal Counsel - Litigation

CHS has an exciting opportunity in our Legal team. We are looking for a Senior Legal Counsel - Litigation whose primary role will be to partner with the General Counsel, Assistant General Counsel, CHS Business Unit leaders and outside counsel to manage, oversee and direct CHSs litigation portfolio and preventative law strategies. You must have a practical, business-oriented approach to problem-solving, and the ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment, tempered by an appreciation of legal complexity and risk. You must also have excellent communication skills and the ability to manage multiple, changing priorities efficiently, using discretion and judgment in executing assignments with high confidentiality, and the ability to work collaboratively with others and with a team approach to issues.You will:Manage litigation company-wide, including litigation/dispute management strategy and implementation.Act as a liaison between internal CHS business leaders and outside counsel.Update relevant leaders on a regular basis regarding case status, budget, outcome potentials and appropriate financial reserve levels.When appropriate, review and revise court pleadings, including complaints, answers, discovery motions, summary judgement, and other dispositive motions and pre-trial and trial motions.Represent CHS at mediations and other dispute resolution proceedings.Analyze case strengths, weaknesses, and potential outcomes, internalize settlement options, and make resolution recommendations to the appropriate CHS business leaders.Drive cost savings including document discovery, in-sourcing activities and leverage internal resources of the litigation paralegal.Oversee a network of preferred firms, training them on CHSs business, litigation, communication, budgeting and reporting strategies.Negotiate meaningful fee reductions as part of the preferred vendor status.Partner with legal operations leader to ensure efficient internal billing and matter management processes.Collaborate with Risk Management on corporate insurance related considerations.Educate business unit leaders and staff on possible outcomes, up to and including litigation and advise on the go forward strategy.Manage associated risk (regulatory, investigations, subpoenas, third-party and injured party inquiries).Present quarterly legal reports to the corporate risk committee of the board of directors, updating on material litigation risks facing the company and answer any of their questions.Supervise and mentor litigation paralegal, providing work direction regarding a variety of litigation related tasks.Champion and promote a strong safety culture, follow all safety policies, procedures and regulations, identify and communicate workplace hazards and correct or seek assistance in correcting unsafe actions or conditions.Basic Qualifications: (required)J.D. Law Degree from an accredited U.S. law schoolActive member of a state bar in good standing8 plus years of civil and/or criminal litigation experiencePrevious experience with e-discovery processes and platformsPreferred Qualifications: (desired)Substantial knowledge, expertise and experience in commercial litigation and/or personal injury litigationExtensive experience developing strong partnerships with business leadersSupervisory expereince
