The USMI Chief Compliance Officer (CCO) has primary responsibility for ensuring that Genworth s USMI s operations are conducted in compliance with ethical business practices, internal policies and procedures, and statutory and regulatory requirements. The CCO develops, implements, and maintains USMI s compliance strategy, structure and processes in direct support of and consistent with USMI s mission, objectives, and values.


  • Providing reasonable assurance to Senior Management and the Board of Directors that there are effective and efficient policies and procedures in place, which are well understood and respected by all employees, and that USMI is complying with all applicable requirements
  • Partnering with business leaders and compliance leads embedded within business units to maintain a compliance infrastructure consistent with Genworth s standards
  • Providing guidance to the board of directors, senior staff, and employees on compliance
  • Developing the annual compliance work plan and conduct annual risk assessment using an enterprise wide approach
  • Maintaining current knowledge of laws and regulations, keeping abreast of recent changes
  • Periodically revising the program in light of changes in USMI needs, the law, our lender customers, and the GSEs
  • Coordinating internal compliance review and monitoring activities, including periodic reviews of functions
  • Maintaining and coordinating a cross-functional, matrix compliance organizational structure
  • Mitigating compliance issues by identifying areas of risk and effectively communicating issues, including monitoring compliance indicators, trend results, drive appropriate corrections, and reporting findings to leaders and the board, as applicable
  • Reporting on a regular basis on the progress of implementation, and assisting functions in establishing processes to achieve compliance, improve efficiency and quality of services, and to reduce the vulnerability to fraud, abuse, and waste
  • Proactively recommending changes that control risk while supporting the business objective
  • Assisting the business and senior management in identifying and managing reputational risks
  • Developing and coordinating educational and training programs that seeks to ensure that all appropriate employees and management are knowledgeable of, and comply with, applicable standards
  • Developing policies and programs that encourage managers and employees to report suspected fraud and other improprieties without fear of retaliation
  • Independently investigating and acting on matters related to compliance or internal policy violations, including internal investigations and any resulting corrective actions
  • Working in conjunction with the Legal Department in developing responses to government investigations and queries
  • Reviewing for approval new and modified product, service, and guideline communications
  • Reviewing USMI communications and marketing materials; provide compliance approval or request any amendments required in order to ensure compliant communications
  • Developing, managing and implementing USMI s records retention program


  • Bachelor s degree in Business, Finance, or related field
  • 5-10 years experience working within the compliance, risk, internal audit, legal, or operations department(s) of a mortgage insurance company, mortgage lender, or other insurer
  • Proven understanding of (and/or proven ability to get up to speed on) key aspects of regulatory oversight regarding the mortgage insurance industry including, but not limited to, RESPA, Privacy and Data Security, FCRA, Fair Lending, HPA, S.A.F.E Act, state anti-discrimination/anti-rebating laws, and PMIERs, as well as compliance related to sales, marketing, and sweepstakes/promotions
  • Strong understanding of insurance products, distribution models, and business processes
  • Ability to communicate effectively (both written and verbal) with all levels of business, including senior management and external stakeholders; influencing skills necessary to lead in a cross functional environment
  • High personal integrity along with high energy levels and works well under pressure to meet deadlines while being flexible and adaptable
  • Strong organizational skills with ability to manage multiple priorities; critical thinking/good analytical skills
  • Excellent project management experience along with exceptional research, communication and negotiation skills while maintaining strong customer service orientation
  • Ability to build trust and foster internal relationships to promote a culture of compliance
